Caravan tourism in Kerala
Many state Governments in India have taken initiatives to promote caravan tourism to attract tourists. One among these states is the world famous God's own country - Kerala! Kerala is famous for its lush green hills, tea plantations, meadows, high vibing beaches, and serene backwaters. These landscapes are perfect for a caravan road trip and camping.
Caravan tourism was established in Kerala as a part of Kerala’s responsible tourism initiatives for sustainable growth and for the benefit of the local communities, promoting eco-friendly practices and market for local products. This initiative is named as Keravan Kerala includes two components, which are Tourism Caravans and Caravan Parks.
Tourism Caravan offers specially built recreational vehicles (RV) or caravans which will have all the necessary facilities for a comfortable stay such as sofa-cum-bed, kitchenette with fridge and microwave oven, dining table, toilet cubicle, partition behind the driver, Air-conditioner, internet connectivity, audio-video facilities, charging system and GPS. These vehicles are BS VI compliant to ensure eco-friendliness and are at par with international emission norms.
Caravan Parks or RV Parks are designated places to park recreational vehicles or caravans and enable the visitors to spend a memorable time exploring the destinations in Kerala. These caravan parks are completely safe and secure zones offering a hassle-free and stress-free environment to tourists, protected with compound walls, adequate security and safety arrangements, surveillance cameras. The Park authorities will maintain effective coordination with local authorities and medical establishments to attend to medical emergencies.
The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) had announced the launch of Kerala’s Caravan Tourism package. Travellers have to pay INR 3999 plus 18% tax per person per night, plus the ride fare has been fixed at INR 40 per kilometre, and the caravan will be able to accommodate up to two children and four adults. This whole initiative is a public private partnership, where the state-run KTDC has signed an agreement with private caravan service providers opting to operate under this package.
Tourists visiting Kerala can use this package to explore Kerala. A driver will be provided to drive the caravan safely and the safari circuit as per the package will cover Kumarakom – Vagamon – Thekkady route. The trip has been designed to begin at KTDC’s WaterScapes in Kumarakom and end at Aranya Nivas in Thekkady.
Kerala tourism has made exploring God's own country even more exciting with the Keravan Kerala initiative. We are anticipating more people embracing caravan culture and sustainable tourism which will help our ecosystem to sustain for long.
