Sneakout to Leh: A 4-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and acclimatisation

  • Arrive in Leh by flight or road from Manali/Srinagar

  • Check into your hotel and rest for a few hours to acclimatise to the high altitude (Leh is located at 3,500 metres/11,500 feet above sea level)

  • In the afternoon, visit the Leh Palace, a former royal palace built in the 17th century, located in the heart of the city

  • In the evening, explore the local market and try some traditional Ladakhi cuisine

Day 2: Monastery tour

  • Start your day early and drive to Shey Palace, the summer palace of the Ladakh kings

  • Visit Thiksey Monastery, a 12-story complex perched on a hilltop that offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys

  • Drive to Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh, and witness the Hemis Festival (if your visit coincides with it)

  • Return to Leh in the evening and spend some time strolling around the Shanti Stupa, a Buddhist white-domed stupa that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains

Day 3: Nubra Valley

  • Leave early in the morning and drive to Nubra Valley via the Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the world

  • Visit the Diskit Monastery, known for its 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha

  • Explore the Hunder sand dunes and go for a camel ride on the double-humped Bactrian camels

  • Stay overnight in a traditional Ladakhi homestay or camp in the Nubra Valley

Day 4: Pangong Lake

  • Drive to Pangong Lake, a stunning high-altitude lake located on the border between India and China

  • Spend the day exploring the lake and its surroundings, and indulge in activities like boating, camping, and stargazing

  • Drive back to Leh in the evening and spend the night at your hotel

Note: It is important to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions for altitude sickness throughout your trip to Leh. Also, make sure to carry warm clothing and good quality sunscreen as the weather can be unpredictable.
